[Name] Amarantha
[Gender] Male (currently masquerading as a girl)
[Race] Human
[Age] 15
[Country] Aryanatolia
[Job] Assassin
[Skills]
:bulletblack:Dancing – In order to get closer to his target, one of the skills Amarantha was taught was dancing. He is able to dance in numerous cultural styles and enchant his audience.
:bulletblack:Handling small weaponry – As an assassin, Amarantha's uses easily concealable weapons with varying expertise. The largest weapon he is able to use doubles as dual dancing swords.
:bulletblack:Manipulating plants – Amarantha has always had a way with plants, but it is a skill he hides. He has a limited ability to communicate with plants through touch, and through this communication he can make plants grow quickly and move (manipulating the movement of plants is pretty much exclusive to vines and vine-like plants). For some peculiar reason, his favorite anemone flower always responds to his prompting.
[Original Story] Greek mythology: Adonis
[Personality] Calculating, observant, charismatic, passionate, considerate, and able to put up a variety of masks. Can be passionate and considerate to a fault.
[Story] Amarantha was born as Adonis, the son of the Desert King. The Desert King was not of royal blood, but to the desert peoples, he was a leader worthy of being a king. He was also the leader of the most revered of the desert clans, the Spectres of the Desert. The Spectres were renowned for their battle prowess and survival skills. Of all the tribes, only they had been able to create a permanent home in the desert, a dangerous terrain known as the Spire Canyons. Even among the tribes, the Spectres and their home were a legend, as the way into the supposedly green heart of the canyon was hidden and the Spectres themselves were known to disappear like ghosts into the desert.

The two decades before his birth, the emperor of the Cyriak nation began a conquest of the entire known world. Adonis' birth was a symbol of hope for the desert peoples, for while the Emperor had not managed to successfully navigate the deserts, it was only a matter of time before he would be able to do so. The desert tribes rejoiced in the birth of the prince, for the queen had been thought barren. The people took the miracle of the prince's birth as a sign of favor from the gods. However, a prophecy spread shortly after that made the king fear for his son's future:

The golden prince will burn brightly,
destroying kingdoms and nations with a fiery smile.
His fist grasps hope with strangling grip
as all around him turns to ash.

While the prophecy could apply to any royal prince, or even any male, the Desert King knew in his heart the prophecy was about Adonis. Anguished, but determined to love his potential demon of a son, the king hoped that cherishing his child would keep him from destroying the world.

In the child's third year, the king returned home to discover his son was missing. Desperately, he searched the entire canyon himself, leaving the other warriors to their own devices. It was in the midst of this flurry and chaos that the Emperor attacks the tribe.

One of the king's inner circle, a trusted warrior and advisor, had betrayed the king and helped the emperor reach the Spires. The anguished king is captured during his search. He is forced to watch as the entire tribe is slaughtered. They are an example to the other eastern people's, demonstrating the power of the Cyriak Empire. The king though of the prophecy. Their tribe had been destroyed, and rest of the eastern nations were sure to follow. His last thought, before his head was severed, was of how his child was cursed to a life of loneliness.

Amarantha had wandered to the river at the deepest part of the canyon when no one was looking. At the time his father was beheaded, the prince suddenly found himself falling asleep, picked up, and carried into darkness. When he awoke, two beautiful women were standing at his side. Both were golden-haired with bodies grown men would find distractingly fertile, but one seemed carefree and the other more subdued. Both had been struck by the extreme beauty of the child. Amarantha was told he would spend a third of the year underground, and third of the year above the earth, and during the last third he could choose to go where he pleased. The women created a child's paradise for the boy, and young as he was, he gradually forgot his mother and father. However, he became restless as the memories of his parents faded. While the ladies lavished him with gifts, taught him strange things and showed him hidden places, they were also negligent and unable to give him the attention and affection he craved. They were whimsical creatures, easily distracted and constantly searching for new entertainments for themselves.

It was one such day when the carefree woman had left Amarantha on his own in a temple of the love goddess that a man came across the child playing around a fountain. The man was drawn not only to the child's beauty, but to lonely expression on his face. Without really thinking, he kidnapped Amarantha and brought him home. The man kept Amarantha hidden for a while, cherishing the precious boy as his own. However, it was not long before the child was discovered. The man was a lowly worker among an organization of assassins. When Amarantha was found, he was seized, tested, and forced to go through training. During years he underwent training, he was given the name Amarantha, trained specifically for jobs requiring female impersonation, and often abused. The lowly working man looked after Amarantha as much as he could, making the situation more bearable for the boy.

Five years passed and Amarantha was planted as a dancer performing at the 13th birthday of Prince Serik, the Cyriaki emperor's second son. Somehow he caught the attention of the prince, and the emperor's brother buys Amarantha as a birthday present for the prince. Before going to meet the prince, he is told to get close to the prince and report on happenings in the palace. After initial headbutting, the two boys are able to become such close companions that Serik brings in Amarantha as his most trusted advisor and friend when he begins official duties as a prince. It helps that Serik found out Amarantha is in fact a boy early in their relationship, and that the two agreed to keep it as one of the deepest secrets between them. Serik is the only one who calls Amarantha by the male version of the name, Amarant.

Near Serik's 18th birthday, Amarantha is approached by a guard while walking alone in an empty hall. He is given a scrap of paper on which a series of fingerprints are arranged in a circle. It is a signal that the assassin organization are waiting to attack the palace. It also means that he has to be ready to kill the emperor, and more pressingly, Serik.

[Misc]
:bulletblack:Adonis is his true name, but this has not been revealed to him. Therefore, those who know his gender call him “Amarant.” The people who currently know his actual gender are few and far between, so unless he gives permission to use the male form of his name, everyone must call him “Amarantha.”
:bulletblack:Amarantha is sufficiently androgynous and young enough that he simply looks like an extremely beautiful child. Everyone, with extremely few exceptions, interpret his appearance as that of a young girl. His body indicates a child that has not developed (or is only just beginning to develop), but certain expressions make him seem much older than even his current age.
:bulletblack:Amarantha does not know his age.

Wow~ he's got a great disguise! XD Seeing all of these great characters is making me really excited to join! ^-^ I've been working on my character's backstory all day! Drawing her will be a pain, though. Why did I choose a character who is clothed in lots of billowing fabric? XD
